The Minnesota Vikings are running away with title of “Best NFL Draft” in 2012…

tags — Dynasty League, 2012 Fantasy Football, NFL Draft, NFL Combine, rookie draft, sleepers, IDP

The Vikings completely bluffed the Browns, and picked their pocket in their Thursday trade…on that point, everyone universally agrees. However, it wouldn’t matter how many picks the Vikings got from Cleveland if they flubbed the picks.

After three rounds, the Vikings have secured one of the highest rated LTs our computer has had in the last few years with Matt Kalil. The Vikings then followed that with one of our computer’s 3 highly rated Safety prospects for 2012 in Harrison Smith.

The latest Vikings coup was snagging Josh Robinson in the 3rd-round. Robinson grades as a potential NFL-elite, lock-down CB according to our computers. Robinson was our #1 rated CB wire-to-wire during our computer’s 2012 evaluation process, and was one of the 10 highest rated players in this draft overall according to our computer models.

Best Pick in the Draft = #70 by the Jacksonville Jaguars

tags — Dynasty League, 2012 Fantasy Football, NFL Draft, NFL Combine, rookie draft, sleepers, IDP

****See more unique NFL Draft prospect reports at www.collegefootballmetrics.com *****

The Jaguars taking a punter in the 3rd-round is the best strategic pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, when you consider the context of the NFL team with the worst QB situation and a collection of skinny/short WRs. Punter Bryan Anger will potentially touch the ball more than anyone on the Jags in 2012+. Anger should be the odds on favorite for becoming the Jags team MVP in 2012.

Anger did have the 6th best average yards per punt in the PAC-10 last year…and that screams 3rd-round pick every time. Unbelievable.

Sorry Jags fans, my condolences. You don’t need any more humiliation. I apologize.

Why Would You Select LaMichael James When You Already Have Kendall Hunter?

tags — Dynasty League, 2012 Fantasy Football, NFL Draft, NFL Combine, rookie draft, sleepers, IDP

No slight to LaMichael James, but what are the 49ers doing?

LaMichael James is virtually the same height, weight, 40-time speed, agility measurements, hand-size, arm length, vertical leap, and broad jump as Kendall Hunter. I would argue all day long that Hunter is the superior RB-prospect to James. Whether you buy that or not, they are very similarly talented RBs. So, why do you need both?

I’ve heard of “Thunder & Lightning” backfields…do we really need “Lightning & Lightning”?

More importantly, why would you waste a coveted 2nd-round draft pick on something (James) you already have (Hunter)? Lest we forget, Frank Gore or Brandon Jacobs. Is RB really the main position of need to take the next step toward the Super Bowl?

Why did the 49ers extend a big contract to Gore last year?

NFL commentary aside, this throws Kendall Hunter’s Fantasy Football value straight under the bus. It also makes LaMichael James fairly meaningless/suspect. For that matter, this doesn’t help Frank Gore’s 2012+ Fantasy value either.

This pick is an NFL head-scratching decision, and is also a Fantasy Football bowling ball that just took out three “RB-pins” of 2012 Fantasy value in James, Hunter, and Gore.

2012 NFL Draft Prospect Research Reports: Korey Toomer, Chandler Jones, Kendall Wright 2.0

tags — Dynasty League, 2012 Fantasy Football, NFL Draft, NFL Combine, rookie draft, sleepers, IDP

2012 NFL Draft Research Report: OLB Korey Toomer, Idaho

Some mainstream rating services do not even have Korey Toomer listed as a prospect in this draft at all. We have Toomer rated quite highly. Toomer had one of the most interesting college journeys to relevance of any prospect we have studied in 2012. Korey Toomer is a Von Miller clone physically/athletically. The question is — “is Toomer as good a prospect as Von Miller“? To see our answer to that question, and to why our computer has Korey Toomer rated so well…. www.collegefootballmetrics.com

2012 NFL Draft Research Report: DE Chandler Jones, Syracuse

Chandler Jones has made a late surge from 2nd-3rd round consensus draft projections, to suddenly in most everyone’s 1st-round projections. How did this happen in such sudden unison? To see why our computer models have not been high on Chandler Jones all along in this DE class… www.collegefootballmetrics.com

2012 NFL Draft Research Report: WR Kendall Wright, Baylor 2.0 update

The news of Kendall Wright’s bench press count and body-fat percentage readings from his Pro-Day are a wrecking-ball to his draft status. We never thought Wright should be valued as a 1st-round pick just based on the supply and demand of WRs of his ilk. This new information should make a radical change in his draft status. To see how hard a hit Wright has taken in our system, and the WR names whom our computer models now show as historical comparisons… www.collegefootballmetrics.com

2012 Dynasty Rookie Draft Rankings & Mock Draft Coming to CFM

tags — Dynasty League, 2012 Fantasy Football, NFL Draft, NFL Combine, rookie draft, sleepers, IDP

For those subscribers at our sister site www.collegefootballmetrics.com, who are Dynasty League Fantasy Football players, we will be grading and statistically ranking all the 2012 offensive position prospects by position based on what our computer sees now as the outlook for the players with their newly joined NFL teams. As we finish each position ranking, we will post it under the corresponding tab on the College Football Metrics site.

We will also have a defensive player ranking as well.

Finally, we will then tie it all together for an overall mock draft of the top 50-100 prospect we have ranked with a Dynasty perspective…as well as commentary on the players/situations. A mini-Dynasty Rookie Draft Guide if you will.

We plan to crank out some/all the 1.0 versions by the end of the week post-NFL Draft, and we will update as the situations warrant (injury, free agency, etc).

Stay Tuned.

Kendall Wright to Tennessee is the worst pick in the 1st-round and there is still 10 picks to go…

tags — Dynasty League, 2012 Fantasy Football, NFL Draft, NFL Combine, rookie draft, sleepers, IDP

A selection of Kendall Wright does not give warm-feelings for what the Titans see in Damian Williams. Wright is not a Britt replacement; he’s much smaller/slower. Wright has bust written all over him, and now goes to a team with a shaky QB situation (we aren’t high on Locker at all), and a team with solid WR depth as it is with Williams, Britt and Nate Washington.

Wright’s Dynasty-Fantasy value is weak for 2012 at best, and his long-term outlook is very dicey given his terrible conditioning pre-draft (a bench press rep count of 4 is humiliating and a monster red-flag). Since we don’t like Locker’s future prospects, we wouldn’t be high on Wright for Dynasty-Fantasy even if he were in shape.

With all the great “small-WR” prospects available, the sheer supply and demand warrants a prospect like Wright as a 3rd-5th round draft pick…a 1st-round selection is a terrible business/valuation decision by the Titans in our opinion.

Jacksonville just killed Justin Blackmon for Dynasty Leagues and Fantasy Football 2012

tags — Dynasty League, 2012 Fantasy Football, NFL Draft, NFL Combine, rookie draft, sleepers, IDP

—- See our 2012 NFL Draft Prospect Research Reports at www.collegefootballmetrics.com

We did not have Justin Blackmon rated that highly as it was, now he goes to a team that has struggled with the forward pass for a couple of years now. Blackmon will become a forgotten WR by Dynasty owners by mid-season 2012, and may also suffer long-term as Jacksonville appears to be completely a discombobulated franchise that is potentially years way from landing a franchise-QB. Any Dynasty owner making a selection of Blackmon early in the upcoming Dynasty Rookie Draft is making a major mistake.
