2011 Preseason Week-2 Vikings vs. Seahawks – Fantasy Football Notes

 – I hate to consistently rail on one player, but Tavaris Jackson (11-21 for 75 yards, 0 TD/1 INT) is not an NFL starter-worthy QB…and everytime we watch the game tape on him, it drives us crazy that a NFL-team could/would make this “investment.” Jackson (predictibly) scored terrible in our computer analysis scouting coming out of college. If you want every pass play to be either incomplete, or a 2-yard dump off pass…Jackson is your man. Jackson did have one long pass completion in this game, a 64-yard pick-6 TD by the Vikings defense.

The Seahawks will go down the drain as long as Jackson is their QB — the Fantasy Football upside to Jackson is (and we’ve said this for months) start your season with either the 49ers Defense (has T. Jackson in the opener), or grab the Arizona Cardinals Defense. Arizona’s first 3-games are against Cam Newton, John Beck and Tavaris Jackson. The risk with the Arizona-Defense, is that Charlie Whitehurst (14-19 for 97 yards, 1 TD/0 INT) may have the job by Week-3…he should have it now. What an embarrassment for Seattle’s personnel department.

 – Remember when people cared about Golden Tate (1 rec for 10 yards, 3 targets) for Fantasy Football? Tavaris drags down all WRs, including Mike Williams (1 rec for 17 yards) and Sidney Rice (2 rec for 11 yards, 5 targets), to an un-draftable status in a normal 12-team Fantasy Football Draft. I love Mike Williams, but not with Jackson. As soon as Whitehurst has the job, I will be making room for Williams as a reserve WR for me where I can…not many 6’5+ main red-zone target WRs will be sitting available on the waiver wire after the first few weeks.

 – Vikings rookie TE Kyle Rudolph (3 rec for 22 yards, 4 targets) had some impressive catches. We don’t see a huge Fantasy Football upside here in 2011, he is a little slower of a TE…better for a PPR league. The lack of talented Vikings “big-WRs”, and the nagging injury to Visanthe Shiancoe, may lead the 6’6, 260 pound Rudolph to a quick Fantasy Football start …but we don’t see any consistency or major upside for 2011. Rudolph is more of a 2012+ prospect.

 – Leon Washington (4 carries for 26 yards) continues to get early carries for Seattle. The Seattle O-Line is so suspect, mixed with the weak QB play…we can’t get excited about Washington or Marshawn Lynch (3 carries for 2 yards).

 – Devin Aromashodu (2 rec for 30 yards, 3 targets) has been sighted. Aromashodu may throw some decent stats out this year occasionally due to the lack of talent/depth of the Vikings WR group. He is not a sleeper for Fantasy Football 2011.

 – It’s a shame that Toby Gerhart (6 carries for 21 yards) is buried behind Adrian Peterson (6 carries for 16 yards); he could be a starter for many NFL teams. Our computer analysis projected Gerhart out of college as a potential good/great NFL RB.

 – Christian Ponder (6-12 for 63 yards, 0 TD/0 INT) is nowhere near ready, like most rookies. Donovan McNabb (6-8 yards for 81 yards, 0 TD/0 INT) looks so obviously better than Ponder…we’d love to project McNabb higher for Fantasy Football 2011, but that weak Vikings WR group (Percy Harvin excluded) mixed with a tougher schedule causes us to shy away.
