FANTASY FOOTBALL METRICS -
RB
Who is Green Bay RB
James Starks? (12-5-10)
Green Bay may have it's lead RB finally, in the
person of James Starks. However, they will be
sweating injury with every carry. Injuries to
Ryan Grant, an underwhelming performance by
Brandon Jackson, and finally an injury to Dmitri
Nance has pulled James Starks up onto the active
roster.
I'm sure that the Packers would have preferred
to give Starks another year to develop
physically, but the future is now. Starks is
a more thin-framed RB, he is big at 6'2,
218...but is built more like a WR. At the NFL
Combine in 2010 Starks bench pressed just 15
reps, which confirms more of his frame/strength
issues. To further it more, Starks missed his
entire senior season (2009) with injury and
fought various injuries through out his career.
A quick briefing on James Starks:
-
Star High School running QB
-
Not heavily recruited, wound up at the
University of Buffalo with new coach Turner
Gill
-
Changed from QB, to CB, to ultimately
becoming a RB
-
Wound up as the all-time career rusher at
Buffalo, despite missing his senior season
-
College stats against better competition:
-
vs. Penn State as a SOPH = 41 yards rushing
and 1 TD, 4 rec for 30 yards
-
vs. Rutgers as a SOPH = 21 yards rushing ,
1 rec for 13 yards
-
vs. Syracuse as a SOPH = 62 yards rushing, 5
rec for 37 yards
-
vs. Pitt as a JR = 97 yards rushing, 2 rec
for 7 yards
-
SOPH YEAR = 1,103 rushing yards, 4.4 ypc, 12
TD, 41 rec for 311 yrads and 2 TD
-
JR YEAR = 1,333 rushing yards, 4.9 ypc, 16
TD, 52 rec for 361 yards and 1 TD
-
Missed Senior season with shoulder injury
-
Was a projected 2nd-3rd Round pick after
Junior season
-
2010 NFL Combine invitee
-
Very good speed/agility metrics, weaker
strength metrics based on Combine results
-
Fell to a 6th Round pick of GB in 2010
Starks will definitely get some people excited,
but given his inexperience and crowded backfield
in GB...I wouldn't rush head first into this
pickup. Deeper leagues with 12+ teams and bigger
rosters may want to take a flier on him to see
how he develops. 2011-2012+ is probably more
where he will materialize to steady
productivity, if he does.
